Gary loves to play and watch baseball. As a little boy, he dreamed of playing professional baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals. He is a huge St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan. His daughter has taken him to two World Series games. He loves swimming, boating, walking on the beach, golfing, and playing tennis. Like most men, he loves watching football and basketball games. At their annual family reunion at Table Rock Lake, he and his family go swimming, boating, tubing, skiing, surfing, cliff-jumping into the lake, playing croquet, and participating in many board and card games.
Gary and his wife, Elaine, met when they were fifteen and married at eighteen. They have been married for 55 years. They have three children and four grandchildren. All four are in college: one at Baylor, two at the University of Alabama, and one at Oklahoma City University.
Gary earned his Ph.D. in Biblical Studies (Major in Old Testament, Minor in New Testament, Cross Areas of Ethics and Archaeology) from SWBTS. He earned an additional 34 hours of graduate study in history from SBU, UTA, and SWBTS. As well as serving as pastor of seven churches over the past 55 years, Gary has taught as an adjunct professor at LSUA for the past 11 years. He helped LSUA develop and had approved by the Board of Regents the only BA in Religious Studies offered in the history of Louisiana by a state university or college. He has pastored NLCC since 2006.
Steve experienced Christ in a life-changing way as an adult. He was not reared in a Christian home. He wanted to use his talent as a drummer, guitarist, and singer for the Lord. Steve has served three churches as a Worship Pastor. He served Heartland Christian Church for a few years, then served a large contemporary church in Indiana, and New Life Community Church for the past several years. Before serving churches, he was a professional musician working in Florida. He often served as the star drummer. Steve knows electronics, computers, sound systems, and lighting systems too. He worked at Fort Polk with all their sound and lighting productions. In addition, he served as Director of the Music Coop in downtown Alexandria. He and Phylicia were married at NLCC, and she has helped him in so many ways at church since. His daughter, Alli, who is married, is a worship pastor in a growing church in Iowa.
